Each manufacturer’s installation guide varies slightly depending on the style and features of the product, but the general process is basically the same. Before buying your
pot rack, it is a good idea to see what is involved in the installation process. The following guide briefly goes over both ceiling and wall mounting instructions for your pot rack. Please refer to your manufacturer’s installation guide when actually hanging your pot rack.
Materials:
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Stud Finder(recommended)
- Ceiling Screws(comes with most pot racks)
The first step of installing your
hanging pot rack is to locate your ceiling joists using a stud finder or by knocking on the ceiling. Keep in mind that most joists are 18” to 24” apart and that your pot rack must be secured to the ceiling joists. Once the joists have been located, mark them with a pencil. Some
pot racks have two hanging points whereas most have four hanging points. However, the hanging process is very similar for each.
The next step is to drill a hole into the ceiling joists slightly smaller than the width of the screw. Screw the ceiling screw into the hole until it is firmly secured to the joist. Once this is done, the
pot rack is ready to be hung. After you’ve attached your
pot rack and
pot rack chain together you can attach the chain to the
ceiling pot rack hooks. Ensure that the pot rack is firmly secured by gently tugging one of the
pot rack chains.

Attaching a
pot rack to a wall is a much simpler task than hanging it from a ceiling. However the process is similar. First, find and mark the wall studs using a stud finder or by knocking on the wall. Keep in mind that most wall studs are about 16” apart.
Drill holes into the studs slightly smaller than the wall screw that you will be using to attach your
wall pot rack. Next have a partner hold the
pot rack in place while you secure it to the wall studs with the wall screws provided to you by the manufacturer. Now, because the rack is wall mounted, you won’t need to worry about the rack swinging or being unbalanced like a
hanging pot rack.
